A four-day immersive learning retreat for instructors who want more than surface-level education

This isn’t just another clinic and way to earn continuing education. It’s a transformational learning experience unlike anything you’ve attended as an adaptive/therapeutic riding instructor.

Over four full days you’ll be immersed in high-level instruction theory, evidence-based teaching methods, and hands-on application that will expand the way you see both horses and students… and challenge you to see how much further you can take them.

Expect to be pushed outside your comfort zone. You’ll be challenged to think differently, to refine your instructor eye, and to connect the dots between horsemanship, biomechanics, and teaching theory. You’ll not only deepen what you teach, but also strengthen your how and why behind everything you ask your students and horses to do.

You’ll spend your days moving between classroom discussion, mock-horse practice, and mounted application on actual horses …thinking deeply, asking better questions, and collaborating with other instructors who care about safety, horse welfare, and high-quality instruction.

Expect to be mentally engaged, physically involved, and professionally refreshed.

  • Newer instructors: This event will be an intense but incredible jumpstart to your journey…equipping you with a foundation that many instructors take years to build.
  • Experienced instructors: You’ll be pushed beyond surface-level teaching and leave with advanced tools to sharpen and elevate your instruction.

What You’ll Learn

This clinic blends evidence-based teaching, horsemanship, biomechanics, and real-world application in a progressive, layered format.

Evidence-Based Teaching & Instructional Decision-Making

  • Zone of Proximal Development and student progression
  • The OODA loop  for quick, real-time instructional judgment
  • Avoiding the task-analysis trap – how to teach more with less words
  • Building effective cues, using specific praise, and asking better questions
  • Promoting engagement, independence, and realistic progression
  • Interleaving, varied practice, and lesson review documentation
  • Creating “thinking students,” not dependent riders

Disabilities, Precautions, and Instructor Judgment

  • In-depth coverage of common diagnoses seen in adaptive riding
  • Precautions and contraindications…how to find them, interpret them, and apply them
  • Hypotonia, hypertonia, and mixed tone: how they actually show up in lessons
  • Understanding tone changes during effort, fatigue, stress, and instability
  • Teaching to what you see in the moment, not just the diagnosis or what’s written on paper
  • Applying disability knowledge to mounted and unmounted instruction

Horsemanship, Horse Welfare, and Handling

  • Safe, effective haltering, grooming, leading, and tack fitting
  • Impact of handler & instructor’s body language on the horse…theory and applied handling
  • Timing of cues from on the ground
  • Empathy for the lesson horse: what are we really asking of them?
  • Understanding workload, balance, and welfare from the horse’s perspective

Riding Instruction & Biomechanics

  • Unmounted skill builders for posture, alignment, seat, leg, and rein aids
  • Teaching a solid seat, balance, steering, two-point, posting, and rein management
  • Stirrup length and rein length: purpose, outcomes, and common errors
  • Understanding desired outcomes of common skills and how to actually get students there
  • Transitions, rider influence, and biomechanics on horseback
  • Longe lessons, trot progression, posting mechanics, and quiet hands

Mounting & Dismounting

  • Unmounted skill builders to build safe mounting and dismounting
  • Supported, independent, and emergency dismounts & procedures
  • Supported & independent mounts and dismounts
  • Positioning and communication during mounting

Lesson Planning & Program Sustainability

  • Lesson planning that truly creates learning and progression without instructor burnout
  • 2-up / 2-down method to enable real-time adjustment and teaching to a group with varied ability levels
  • Reverse-engineering lesson method and application
  • Time saving documentation tips to improve safety and progression
  • Professional judgment, boundaries, and proactive behavior management
  • Creating clear communication and boundaries with students, parents, caregivers, and volunteers

Games & Activities With Purpose

  • Using games intentionally…not as filler
  • Layering challenges across weeks
  • Supporting progression, independence, and transfer of skills
  • Leave the clinic with 3 months of lesson plans that are built to enhance learning and progression

Beyond the Arena

This clinic also addresses the realities instructors face every day:

  • Safety and risk awareness
  • Ethical decision-making
  • Staying in your professional lane

  • Building sustainable lesson structures that protect instructors and horses

I found this clinic to be the most valuable money and time I’ve EVER spent regarding every aspect of becoming a much better therapeutic riding instructor. In 2 days we covered an enormous amount of topics, in depth, in an organized, cogent, straight forward manner. Saebra is exceptional as an educator. Her comprehensive experience, knowledge, and compassion are truly excellent. I’ll continue to follow all of her offerings and look forward to another opportunity to work with her in person. – Stephanie

I was personally refreshed and encouraged, as well as hopeful for our own industry. This instruction couldn’t be more needed. – Ryan E.

So worth the money! I learned so much and I’m walking away with so many more “tools” in my toolbox and can’t wait to implement these things in my lessons. – Larissa F.

Saebra was able to really drive home some items that I had never really thought about. Points that I had always done just because it was the way I was taught never thinking that there might be other ways that met my needs better. – Elizabeth L.

I found this clinic to be so informative and engaging. It was an immersive experience that helped me use critical thinking and problem solving. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and work towards the PATH instructor certification as I have a better understanding of the correct path forward. – Christy W.
