Extreme Adaptive Tack & Equipment: Blessing or Risk? PART 2[FREE]
Innovations that can change everything… for better or worse.
PART 2: BEYOND THE SADDLE
Date: Monday, December 22, 2025
Time: 3:00 PM Pacific | 6:00 PM Eastern
Location: Live on Zoom | Interactive Class + Live Q&A
Adaptive and therapeutic riding instructors are surrounded by a wide range of “adaptive,” “therapeutic,” and “special needs–friendly” equipment—much of it marketed as essential, supportive, or safety-enhancing. But, just like adaptive saddles, not all equipment with an “adaptive” label actually serves the rider, the horse, or the long-term goals of your program.
In Part 2 of this series, we’re expanding beyond the saddle and taking a clear, objective look at other forms of extreme or higher-support adaptive tack and equipment commonly used in adaptive/therapeutic riding lessons.
This session will examine equipment such as:
- Gait belts and trunk-support vests
- Posture-correcting devices and straps
- Hand-position and heel “fixing” aids
- Common adaptive reins
- Other creative or marketed solutions providing physical assistance
Together, we’ll:
- Break down what truly makes adaptive equipment supportive, effective, and safe — and what may introduce risks, restriction, or unintended biomechanical consequences
- Explore when equipment promotes learning and independence… and when it creates dependency or artificial stability
- Evaluate support devices through an evidence-based lens rather than relying on marketing claims, tradition, or emotional reasoning
- Apply the Tack Safety & Suitability Recipe from Part 1 to assess stability, biomechanics, adjustability, progressive learning, and overall impact on the horse
- Discuss financial stewardship — how to confidently assess whether higher-cost adaptive equipment, systems, or commercial products are smart investments or simply clever marketing
- Take a realistic look at how certain aids affect rider function, safety, learning, and communication with the horse
- Talk honestly about balancing innovation, ethics, and safety while navigating the pressure to say “yes” to more riders with complex needs
By the end of Part 2, you’ll have a deeper understanding of how to evaluate adaptive tack and equipment—not just saddles—so you can make informed, ethical, evidence-driven decisions that prioritize safety, learning, and horse welfare.
