This interactive, hands-on clinic is designed to educate, equip, and encourage adaptive/therapeutic riding

instructors at all stages — from those currently certified to those actively training toward certification.

Join us for 2.5 immersive days of education and collaboration where you’ll refine your horse handling,

teaching, and lesson planning skills, gain evidence-based techniques, and leave with practical tools to

improve both student outcomes and equine welfare.

CEU’S: Yes — this clinic counts! It meets continuing education requirements for multiple certifying

organizations and offers valuable observation and hands-on hours that count toward instructor

training and certification prep.

What You’ll Learn

This clinic blends classroom learning with arena-based sessions, giving you real-world strategies, hands-on

experience, and practical takeaways you can immediately apply in your lessons.

Horse Handling Essentials. Learn how to work more effectively alongside your equine coworkers. This

section focuses on equine communication, behavior, and welfare during grooming, leading, and arena

transitions. You’ll also gain tools to help your volunteers troubleshoot common handling issues with

confidence and clarity.

Mounting & Dismounting (supported to independent). Practice safe, effective mounts and dismounts

using both mock and real horses. Includes techniques for working with platforms, ramps, and blocks, and

spanning independent to assisted mounts — plus strategies to support student progression over time.

Posture, Alignment, and Addressing Common Issues. Explore the impact of tack, stirrup length, and

biomechanics on student alignment and function. Practice teaching strategies to improve rider posture and

alignment through unmounted and mounted activities.

Teaching Core Riding Skills such as transitions, steering, 2-point position, and rein management.

Break down these core skills using progressive instruction. Practice effective phrasing, troubleshoot

common challenges, and explore mounted exercises that build student competence and confidence.

Evidence-Based Teaching Strategies. Learn foundational human learning theory and evidence-based

approaches tailored for adaptive/therapeutic riding. Discover how to use clear cueing, scaffolded

instruction, interleaving, and strategic lesson planning to help optimize student learning and retention.

Networking & Peer Discussion. Collaborate with fellow instructors to share insights, test phrasing and

teaching snippets, and discuss lesson adaptations and class management strategies in a supportive

environment.
