Smarter Horse Screening & Selection: What to know before you say “yes” to that new herd member [Live, Online Class]
📅Date: Tuesday, August 26th, 2025 |4:00–5:30 PM Pacific Time (7:00–8:00 PM Eastern)
💻 Live on Zoom | Interactive Class + Live Q&A + Replay Access
Not every horse is the right fit for adaptive/therapeutic riding program —and finding out after they arrive at your barn can waste valuable time, money, and emotional energy.
This live class is designed to help program directors, instructors, and equine managers make smarter, faster, and more confident decisions when screening potential horses. Whether you’re expanding your herd through purchase, lease, or donation this process can help you avoid common missteps and make better long-term matches.
🧠 What You’ll Learn:
- What to ask (and what NOT to skip!) during the first contact with an owner or seller
- How to review photos, videos, phone screenings, and written info for red/green flags
- The top traits to look for—and what’s overhyped or misunderstood
- How to conduct a safe and efficient in-person evaluation
- Tips for bringing the horse onto your property and setting up for success
- A realistic progression from first contact to arrival—and why rushing or skipping steps backfires
- How to make wise decisions by understanding your program’s unique setup, staff experience, physical environment, and available resources
We’ll explore how to screen horses in a way that not only protects your time and budget, but also gives each horse a fair shot without setting them—or your team—up for failure.
❗Note: This class covers the screening and onboarding process through arrival at your facility. It does not cover training, desensitization, or integration into mounted/unmounted sessions—these topics are slotted to be addressed in a future class.
📸 Interactive Horse Reviews – Real Examples from Attendees!
You’re invited to submit photos and short videos of horses you’re currently evaluating (or have questions about). Saebra will walk through select submissions live during class to demonstrate her real-time screening process—no prior info, no rehearsals. This is a great way to hear how an experienced evaluator approaches real-world cases.
