Even the strongest volunteer training system can fall apart if lessons are scheduled without regard for the actual resources a program has available.

In Part 3 of Elevate & Strengthen Your Volunteer Training Program, we take a practical, big-picture look at how adaptive/therapeutic riding programs can strategically schedule lessons around their volunteer capacity—instead of constantly scrambling to fill roles or stretching staff and horses too thin.

This class focuses on how to align lesson formats, class sizes, mounted and unmounted offerings, and scheduling structures with the volunteers a program realistically has access to at each stage of training. Participants explore ways to optimize who they can serve, when, and how—without sacrificing safety, equine welfare, or instructor wellbeing.

We also examine clear, intentional communication strategies for volunteers at every stage of their journey, from onboarding and training to lesson assignments. Thoughtful communication reduces confusion, increases retention, and helps volunteers feel confident and supported in their roles.

This session is designed to help programs move from reactive scheduling to intentional, resource-aligned planning that supports sustainability rather than burnout.

This 90-Minute Live Class Will Help You:

  • How to schedule adaptive/therapeutic riding lessons around the volunteer resources your program actually has available
  • How different lesson formats (mounted, unmounted, private, group) impact volunteer demand and instructor workload
  • How class size and structure influence safety, stress, and sustainability
  • Ways to optimize who your program can serve without overextending instructors, volunteers, or horses
  • How to strategically use unmounted and alternative lesson formats when volunteer capacity is limited
  • How to communicate clearly with volunteers during onboarding, training, and lesson assignment to reduce confusion and increase retention
  • How intentional scheduling reduces last-minute scrambling and supports long-term program stability

By the end of this class, you’ll have practical tools, scheduling strategies, and adaptable frameworks to align your lesson offerings with the volunteer resources your program actually has available. You’ll walk away with clearer ways to structure class formats, lesson sizes, and mounted and unmounted options so your program can serve students effectively without overextending instructors, volunteers, or horses. This class also equips you with communication strategies to support volunteers at each stage of their involvement, helping reduce last-minute scrambling, improve retention, and build a more sustainable, less stressful program overall.

(Part 1 covered Volunteer Orientation & Sidewalker Training. Part 2 focused on Barn Buddy, Horse Handling & Prep, and Horse Leader training. Participating in earlier sessions is recommended but not required.)
